No differences that i can find. The only thing i can think of is that painteds tend to be a little more cold hardy in the wild, but that doesn't really affect us with them in captivity. I have 3 painteds (easterns) and the smallest painted turtle, Frisbee lives with my smallest RES in the same tank. THey get along great. I just love my painted turtles. :)
