what subspecies of painteds?
I know male easterns can go berserk, even without it being spring. For as small as they are they can be particularly vicious, even killing and eating smaller turtles (I had this with yearlings). I've had large wounds on a female's neck from a tiny male, and other turtles with bleeding legs, etc... I don't recommend male eastern painteds be kept with any other turtles unless breeding is intended, and then only in a large space and for short time with a female painted.
