my painter turtle is sick

iv caught a painter turtle about 3 weeks ago im my lake. at first it could swim under water perfect but now it just floats and swims towards the bricks. the turtle just basks all day. it NEVER goes into the water, it still eats but very slowly. when i put him in the water he swims on its side. i think it has an air bubble in its shell....could someone please tell me whats wrong with it?
