I live in central Washington State. We have plenty of painted turtles around. Towards summer, for a couple of weeks, there was a ton of them in the road. I'd see five a day, and I'd stop and move them back to the lake. Is that time mating season? Also, while I was hiking one day through some ponds and marshes, I came upon a turlte who had a little hole dug and her back end was in it, but there weren't any eggs. It got scared, urinated, and dashed off to the crick. Was she laying eggs? If so, I thought turtles go into a "trance" like state? Well anyway, thanks.
