I've included the last email on this subject below:
This will be my last post on this subject on the mail list and then for
the future on this I will switch to the forum. It is just that I need to
run out of the door in a couple of minutes and this is much faster than
my browser.
I think it didn't cost anywhere near $1500 to become non-profit here in
IL. I think it was more like just a few hundred. Anyway, as I said
before, I have a friend who just went through this process and has a
non-profit status for her teen center (in the meantime I am sure she
would let me use her status if neccessary as an umbrella to fundraise and
to use her non-profit mailing privledges). I will post the specifics of
would let me use her status if neccessary as an umbrella to fundraise and
to use her non-profit mailing privledges). I will post the specifics of
her process as soon as I can get the details. I might not see her for
about 7 -10 days (she lives way out in the country and I am going to be
out of town for work). I want to have an in-person meeting on the matter
before I post further. When I have the details I will post them to the
forum. At any rate, her story of going through it in IL should at least
give everyone some insight into getting started on the process.
Somehow I also think incorporated states could merge at some point. I am
sure this wouldn't be the first time something like this has been done.
Actually, we would all have more non-profit savvy at that point anyway....
