I have the most amazing 6 year old green iguana named Zeus. My husband has had an allergic reaction to him for the past couple of years. I have handled him, slept with him, kissed him...never a reaction until two days ago when I was rushed by ambulance to the hospital. I've spoken with his vet and an allergist who both seem to think (juding on my sudden and acute reaction that it must be chemical not bacterial, etc.) Giving him up is simply not an option...so I will continue to pursue other avenues. One thing interesting to note is that (we've had other iguanas) only the males of breeding age have affected my husband....and only in the fall and early spring. I wonder if they create a chemical "musk" of some sort during breeding season to attract females? Is your iguana male, by chance and, if so, how old? If you'd like, I will continue to update you on what I've been able to learn. Unfortunately, it's not much so far!
