Hello, I'll try to answer your questions.
First of all;
-You should feed your newt around every 4 days.Your newt will probably stop if very full. If full though, they usually don't care and go for the full course. Feed them as much as they can eat in 5 minutes.
-Variety is very important. How would you like it if you only got white rice EVERY meal. Ya, it would be pretty nasty! Feeding variety makes sure they get a variety of different mineral and vitamins, aswell as it gives them a good varied diet like they get in the wild. (I feed my jfbn; earthworms, bloodworms, tubifexworms, crickets, freeze dried red grubs, occasional guppies, and occasional newt and salamander bites, and few other things. Now hows that for variety?)
-I've heard male newts can become somewhat territorial. Your newt isn't bored. If you'd like to get another newt go ahead. Your newt isn't bored, but it may be more entertaining to have 2?
Hope I helped,
Steven
