hi there,
my father was cleaning out the backyard of his house and came across a salamander or newt under a pile of wood. of course, he had to catch it and bring it to me since i have a lot of pets. he thought it might have been an escaped pet since we've never seen any salamanders in this area (north texas). we both did some research and figured it's most likely a small-mouthed salamander. i'm really torn on if i should let it go near by, or keep it because it's such a lovely little slimy thing and i'm afraid it might die because of a different habitat if i let it go.
i have him right now in a five gallon tank with reptile soil-looking bedding that i use for my frog and a dish of water (declorinated). the soil is moist. i'm going out soon to get some crickets and worms to see if he'll eat any of it. need to get a hiding place for him too.
just curious of that set up is alright, or if i should let him go.
thanks,
beth :)
