That Mudsnake doesn't look very healthy....

Mudsnakes are usually quite heavy bodied snakes and that one looks downright scrawny. It looks like it hasn't eaten in a LONG time.

This pic is of a Mudsnake I found last weekend crossing the road in Chambers County TX. They are actually reasonably common due to the large amount of freshwater marsh remaining in this coastal area. Probably true of the coastal marshes in Victoria county, if they haven't all been drained.

Certainly one of my favorite snakes.

FYI - if you ever get a mudsnake again, it is important that you don't keep it long in a dry cage like that. They dessicate very quickly without access to moist sphagnum or even just a large water bowl to get into.
