trouble catching guppy

My snake seem to have some problem catching the guppy in his water bowl, i see him two times near his bowl and he dont take any. Since snake vision arent that great, how does he knows where the guppy are ? Does his jacobson organ allow him to scent guppy underwater ? Should i give him trout piece that he dont have to "catch", i would prefer that he eat some guppy once in a while since their more complete food than just trout flesh. What would you do ?
