True, goes to illness or injury however I should have been more specific. Snakeguy's advice is extremely valid! More than 50% of the water snakes I received had mites. Mine were wild caught but you should check for sure. Any little black "pepper" in the water dish or on the snake? A medium power magnifying glass will help, such as 10X. And check the shed skin ASAP. Almost for certain if he has mites they will be seen easily on the inside of the moist shed.
