screening for niles

can you use the heavy gauge (it's about 2-3 mm thick)black plastic screening for a nile cage, or will it get ripped to shreds? found this stuff in the fencing section at home depot. seems like it's tough enough, i'm just worried about long term abuse.

i will probably go with the metal screening but if anyone has had any positive experience with this material used with larger monitors that would be cool as it is considerably less expensive.
