A question to a smart individual. -------------

I want to get a large log for my nile's cage, for climbing & basking purposes. Instead of buying a log for top dollar I thought I would just go to a forrest and cut a nice branch off an oak tree --- for free. Any objections, on why this is or is not a good idea?
