I can accept this. Could you please point me in the direction of this body? I am currently taking a Geology coarse, and we are getting into how different soils are made, and where different types of soils are common right now. I am always looking for further insight however.
"Now about what your missing. To think dirt is good for all species is also silly. Each species is evolved to basic habitats and each habitat has different soils or burrowing materials. Your job as a keeper is to look at what type of habitat a species comes from, then from there experiment to see what works best for that type of monitor."
I realize that different species live in different habbitats, and thus need different things. I am constantly looking and experimenting with new things, perhaps too much. Currently, I have been giving different substrates a six month testing period before I decide wheather or not to scrap it. Changing it every month seemed to be doing more harm than good.

I have never had a problem with this, but I'll take your word for it. I rarely if ever use store bough materials anymore. My reasons for giving them up, was that they were not doing the job they were supposed to do. Sometimes I add playsand to really heavy dirt to soften it (lack of better term), but that is the extent of my sotre bought material use.
