Weird egg... question for breeders!

I had one die in the shell last year after it swelled to grotesque proportions (my big word for the day lol)
one day it finally caved in and started smelling so I opened it up and there was a fully developed leo inside and the yolk sac was huge!
about the size of the yolk in a chicken egg.
I'm guessing that since the leo is small, it didn't absorb the whole sac and thats what was left in the shell
