The best thing to do would be to contact your states NR about the rules regarding protected species . Some they may issue permits for and some they may not . It just depends on how threatend a species is . Here in Ohio I would need a permit to have a timber ratler for two reasons . 1) it is native to Ohio 2)and it is a protected species . What species where you thinking of getting ?
