karmic1-- In Minnesota, Common Snappers are protected in the sense that they are considered a game animal and you must possess a fishing license and there is a limit on the take. There is also a commercial turtle trapping license in our state with regard to snappers and other species. Now if you're talking about the Alligator Snapper, they are protected in every state where they occur with the exception of Lousianna. --Maxx
