Kings are lazy, so when you hold yours up to the water dish, it thinks 'Well, I AM thirsty, and I swear I was going to get up in four or five hours to drink myself, but since you're so kind to bring me all the way to the water, I think I'll drink now!'
My king is a little spoiled and generally fails to eat unless I pick her up and put her on top of her food, in which case she starts eating with gusto.
