Common King care

Hi! yesterday i was at the petstore, and I sae the cutest snake for 50 bucks! I got him and found he was a common king. How do I care for him? Right now I have him in a barred hamster cage about ten gallons with a hot rock covering the floor, and a light above the cage. At night, I turn the hot rock up and cover the cage with a blanket. I take him out occasionaly for a drink. This was pretty much an impulse buy, I have never had a pet! Please HELP!!!
