:I'm trying to convince one of my children that we may exchange or sell our pets over the years but he's not sure he wants to do that. We have four snakes and a leopard gecko, and I'd like to sell one of the snakes but it's "his" snake. Have you had to deal with that at all? Any ideas?

I would say they are mostly "mine" as I do most the caretaking, my son does what I tell him and as much as he can (he's 12yrs old) But I've never had to deal with the whole "downsizing" ordeal, mainly because I know going into a purchase of an animal, I'm taking on the responsibility for the rest of its life, thats why I do lots of research on a particular animal, like life expectancy, husbandry needs, etc. Too many people can get caught up in the excitement of a new hobby, then it ends up getting old and boring and the animal ends up suffering. I don't mean to sound like I'm dogging you or anything, but don't sell your animal just to replace it with something else......
