Any time you are starting up a new "group" that consists of people who are passionate about what they do, you are going to get some "rift" in the early stages. You have to flush out many ideas, some out of the box. Right now, this group, whatever that group may be at this point, just needs to keep throwing some ideas around so that "we" can come back to the table and begin developing some sort of focus for where this group is heading. This takes time; particularly when much of it will be done via this forum and email. I am currently on the advisory board for the Chicago Herpetological Society in determining how we can improve the wording of the Illinois Dangerous Animals Act; this has take a lot of time, a lot of dialogue (sometimes HEATED) and a lot of compromise at times...but, we all share a similar vision; it is just how to get there where we sometimes don't see eye to eye (but we have never felt this to be a problem, just the contrary, it fosters a variety of viewpoints which is healthy). I have also gone through the same thing with the eastern massasauga conservation efforts I am involved with here in Illinois. So, in short, this will all work out and whatever happens, it will be better than nothing happening at all. Getting the ball rolling is always a difficult task and I am glad that Dean has taken the lead in this project to keep things on track. Some folks may decide to bail out due to philosophical differences while most will have a buy-in of this important project. I look forward to hearing the many ideas that are going to be shared.
:is for us to not agree on this group. Whoever first thought of it, or whatever group of people did should write up a "statement of purpose" for the group. after it is posted it would be a lot easier to pick a name and follow through with the purpose of the group. don't let all of the misconstrued ideas (not that any of them are bad) get away from us and keep us from doing anything.
:I'm sure when we all started reading the posts, we all got a different idea of the possibilities. but possibilities meet realities. this doesn't make them impossible, just, well, realistic. i for one had been throwing around the idea of a vpi for drymarchon(DPI?). but that would take some work. just don't rule it out. in about 20 years from now when i'm an accomplished attorney and have some money saved up...who knows. anybody want the job of their life?....
:ANYWAYS, what i'm saying is we've had a lot of great ideas posted on this forum but for any of them to work we must decide on one to begin with and work on it together.
:So lets work this out.
:Travis.
