Glenn...is she on a cycler or is it a catheter?
Calcium absorption *is* very important...but then so is phosphorus protein purines sodium and potassium intake. Ive checked out some very interesting things regarding the roadside weed "kudzu" & its affects on kidney functioning, but can't find the link. Perhaps you might want to do a web search on it. Here are a couple of links you might find interesting regarding peritoneal dialysis & nutrition...you can write or call a 1-800 number for info on diet pamphlets/books ...ok! One thing about nursing and Drs. we usually get 1 course in nutrition its the only requirement, and if like me...ya get it in the stone age. So much has changed..Im finding out. Dietetic services...specialize in nutrition but the only thing that bugs me...ours tell the patients what is okay to eat, and give them some menu plans but they *rarely* explain what's happening and why these foods should be eaten or avoided all together ****sigh**** We have to be our own educators! When you learn about it educate us please! Enuff already....relinquishing the soapbox.
