Well Hi T&Q....
This subject *is very* interesting to me & I'll bet to others!I haven't had personal experience with ig kidney failure acute or chronic, but Ive been reading on it alot since my female ig has slightly elevated uric acid. How long have you had Q? What was the diet like then & now?
Did the vet talk to you about diet? Is Q on any medication? There are 2 different phases of renal/kidney damage and each one treated differently as far as diet & fluid intake go.....1 is oliguric where there are no to little urates, pee excreted (usually when igs are diagnosed) then the diuretic phase where opposite occurs.Which pertains to Q? . Then with kidney damage comes impaired ability to activate Vitamin D so unfiltered direct sunlight becomes very important. Since decreased Vitamin D available less calcium is absorbed soooo calcium supplementation is a good idea ...So very important to know what the CA: P ratio was on the bloodwork taken on Q. Usually phosphorus is very high....so a good choice of calcium supplementation would be TUMs ULTRA ...calcium carbonate with phosphate binders. So much info on diet....If you could help me out and post regarding a few of these scattered around questions that would help! Please repost. I wish it was a simple cut & dry answer ...unfortunately I need more information.Kidney damage is from soooo many different things antibiotics, dehydration, poor temps, humidity problems, poor diet,....I really don't care how he got it more interested in helping to maintain him...you know there is NO cure :o( ...Iguanas frequently get diagnosed with kidney disease by about 6-8 y/o so he's right there! But that doesn't mean we can't do everything possible to help him...repost let us know a few more things & I'll try & dig up a few links. Iguanamomma has been so very helpful to me with my ig & providing links so we'll give her a holler too!
Hang in there & come back !
Gina
