I suggested she cover it with a towel...Ive heard of many herpers using a sock over theirs...I first told her to get rid of it or that if she was afraid of fire hazard by covering it with a towel than the hot rock had no business being in the tank in the first place...anything to protect the ig!. Which leads me to the *HOT* debate on hot rocks....will there ever be an end to the misinformation out there regarding iguana anything?
Many herpers Ive chatted with swear by em...Hot rocks that are made within the last five years are supposedly very reliable...its the people who use old, unreliable, hazardous, home rigged ones that are burning iguanas. Ive seen more iguanas burned by overhead or poorly placed heating elements (che's incandescents, basking bulbs and infareds than hot rocks in the last five years.
I don't own hot rocks ...kitty....tons of human heating pads....but I can't really say NO to people using them...especially these days...unless I see some hard core data reflecting otherwise.
Just my opinion...which isn't always the popular one!
