It could be a number of reasons why he was as he was.

He could, as someone said before, have been a she with eggs not being able to come out (NOT an unusual mistake!!).

I had one behaving just as you described, and it died from kidney failure due to wrong diet ( not on me, but I got him when he was 3 years ). Mostly the reason why they SUDDENLY die at 3-5 years of age, without any long period of illness IS due to the first two years of wrong diet!!

Another thing that i hear and see from LOTS and LOTS of Iguana owners is that they say that their Iguana loves to be handled and rubbed on their heads. Pleeeease, don't make that mistake out there!!! They DO NOT like it!!! Remeber one thing, this is not social animals, they are COMPETITORS to territory and food! There are at least two ideas on why they close their eyes in something that we want to read as a liking to this. One is that in the nature they are well adapted to "disapearing" in the surroundings due to their camouflage and the only thing that really can give them away is the reflexes in the eyes and therefore they close the eyes. The other is that it's a psycic defence, sort of a " I don't see you so this is not happening ". BUT, you say, he / she is coming to me as soon as he / she can!! Sure, they are not totally stupid, you bring them food, they learn that very quickly and take the bad with the good.

Hope I have not received to many enemies by this or broken too many disillutiance ( spelling bad, I KNOW, lol )
