Sometimes my ig, Louie, poops and then lays in it or something, I guess. He gets pretty dirty sometimes. Do you bathe your ig? An easy way to clean their scales is by taking a soft bristled kiddie toothbrush, w/ soap and water, and gently cleaning them with it. Don't go against the scales! Lou gets pretty rank sometimes, and although he has a large basking area, insists on splaying himself on the walls of his house. He also roots in the corners like a pig, too. I dunno know if this is to get out or if he likes to arrange his bedding himself. How big is 'plently big', anyhoo? Maybe your ig is just a 'free spirit'. =)
