Mike you are absolutely right!
but.....its sodium chloride (salt) that is sneezed out.
excess calcium is stored in other ways that can be deadly for igs, like on bones, creating knobby bone formations or gastro intestinal and heart problems or hypercalcemia in the blood. When you take your Ig to the vet...the first thing they are gonna want to do is a CA:P level. This is how many a diagnosis is made, so its tuff to totally IG-nore those ratios...I think Melissa has something on this...re: feeding...like if your gonna feed a low CA:P food then next time feed a high CA:P food...something like that...you might find it interesting. Calcium is one of those things that ya really don't want to go overboard on, and most certainly don't want to downplay. There is a narrow margin for screwing it up supplement wise. When we supplement we're prone to the *more is better* theory which is all wrong. And you are so right..if given a balanced diet...there should be no need to supplement especially in Wendy's case where she has an almost sexually mature ig. The important thing to know re: CA:P is you want to pick foods that have at least twice the amount of calcium than phosphorus. because if you consistently choose foods that are higher in phosphorus than the calcium content...you are basically *canceling* the nutrients (calcium)in that food out, because excess phosphorus in the diet *inhibits* calcium absorption and they poop out all the good stuff and keep all the bad stuff (excess phosphorus) then get sick and die! and iguanas require a high calcium diet right! among other things...makes ya wonder why ya ever got an iguana in the first place right?..lol..."because they look like dinosaurs"...lol Mike if you can make any sense outta what I posted you deserve a medal!Ive been working on it for a few months & I still don't get it! lol
Gina
