Hakan...thanks for contacting mAikki..she was very happy :-) anyway...regarding phytates Hatfields Manual I suspect you are meaning. Pg. 270 bunches phytates and oxalates together.
Melissa Kaplans site barely makes mention of phytates also. I am using a nutrition book from 1998 and receive a nursing magazine which concluded a study on calcium absorption and foods.
Regarding Phytates it says : "phytic acid in legumes particularly beans, peas, and cereal grains binds to calcium, and prevents its absorption. And certain greens-spinach, Swiss chard( and others mentioned here) contain, oxalic acid, a compound that renders calcium unabsorpable.
Don't give up your grains and greens -eat them more consiously. Serve foods high in phytic and oxalic acids separately from calcium-rich foods, & try not to consume lots of beans or whole grains with your primary calcium sources."
Now I mentioned to Melissa K about the way I am feeding my Igs now...green beans and veggies (separately from the salad Im giving them) and she concluded that "timing" of giving these foods doesn't make any difference whatsoever. Ive asked for info on this from field researchers on herps at sci.bio.herp but have gotten a response thus far.
Anyway...I figure its nothing to get too worried about, Im still reading on it. I find it kind of interesting that's all :-)
