Sneezing in Igs is in fact hydration related. As others already stated, Igs -as well as many other lizards- excrete surplus salts via the harder gland by sneezing. If the body is dehydrated, the sal tbalance is disturbed and the Ig tries to rescue it by increases salt excretion, by increased sneezing frequency.
Whereas many abscesses can require urgently antibiotic treatment (externally or internally) or even surgery, there are also abscesses which may be caused by an impaired immune system or -more frequently- impaired kidney function. Any antibiotic treatment is stress for kidneys and liver, can kill part of the intestinal flora and promote yeast growth in the gut. hence any antibiotic treatment has to be carefully considered. Unnecessary treatment of an Ig with compromised kidney function (which would foit to the poor hydration state) can severely deteriorate the situation or even kill the Ig. So I think, your vet has an excellent knowledge on herp metabolism and treatment!
Anyhow, I have not seen those abscesses. If they detriorate or do not start to vanish within 2-3 weaks, antibiotic treatment has to be reconsidered. As a precaution, bacterial cultures max be grown from the content of one of the abscesses, to get an insight into its bacterial flora and potential antibiotic sensitivities or resistances.
