you better believe it, chances are very good with him stressed out. Do you have gloves? If you dont....and I mean Heavy duty gloves, almost like welders use. If your iguana is already big, the gloves will take SOME of the bite out but not all, it will still hurt.
The tail whipping is a key sign of a NOT so happy iguana who is stressed out. I would get him in a big cage ASAP if you haven't already, then I wouldn't move him at all, just clean around him but watch your fingers and hands....DONT and I mean don't get them within a foot of his mouth.....Iguana's are FAST and before you could THINK about blinking....it would be too late.....let alone, try to pull your hand away. Just leave him be for a few days, then slow spend time with him as he settles down some. SLOW is the key word here Wendy, what takes you a minute to do.....make it take four or five minutes. Show your iguana you don't mean any harm to him. If you are moving too fast....he can't watch you, think if you are good or bad, and still be thinking about how to get away from you .....he looks at you as a strange thing.....you could be bad or you could be good.....HE hasn't decided yet.....let him do that too.....don't force him.
