>>>Did you know that high purine foods include legumes? beans(green, black, kidney, garbanzo, anykind o beans) and peas? <<<
Purines are also in cereals, including organic, whole wheat bread. The trick, as always, is to balance the foods with potentially harmful compounds with those that don't. Just like we do with foods containing calcium oxalates: we have to feed them, but we can choose plants containing less oxalates than others. So, too, we can choose foods that are essential (green beans = protein) vs those that are not (cereals, grains). I don't recommend garbanzos anyway as they are high in fat, and high fat impedes calcium metabolism.
>>>best if NOT mixed with salad but fed separately <<<<
This won't reduce the purine intake or impact - it doesn't matter what the timing is on purine or pyramidine ingestion in terms of what the long term effect is. Perhaps you are confusing this with calcium and calcium oxalates? It is best, for humans, at least, to separate their calcium supplement intake from the consumption of high oxalate foods (such as a spinach salad) by several hours to give the calcium more time to be metabolized before being hit by the binding c.o. This is not an issue with purines.
>>>>finding out how water is sooo very important for igs <<<<<
Absolutely!
>>>and to add baking soda to water to keep high alkaline, less acid in diet<<<
There is NO need, and it may pose serious health problems, to add sodium/salt/soda to any animals' food or water. While I understand what you are trying to do, based on what you think is happening, but it doesn't work that way. Our city and bottled water is already pretty neutral (I periodically test mine for pH and chlorine). Altering it by making it more alkaline may mess up the iguana's electrolytes, causing other organ or systemic problems.
>>>also finding out more about Vitamin C and its role in raising uric acid levels...<<<
Vitamin C plays a large role in many facets of growth and health maintenance...so one should not try to eliminate it. There is small amounts of C in multivitamins and the various plant foods fed to iguanas. Again, I think we would be better served by eliminating (or giving only as occasional treats) plant foods that have purines that are not essential to a balanced diet rather than trying to fiddle with things we don't know enough about (electolytes, Vit. C requirements/dosing, etc.) which could lead to other serious health problems.
