since the weather is warm where you are, i really wouldn't worry about getting a special heating pad for him or anything ...
i would think that Petrie will be fine if the car is 70-80 degrees ... as long as it's not windy or drafty, it'll be ok for a day (or 2) to be a tad on the cool side ...
in fact, if you cover his ig-carrier with a dark towel, he'll prob'ly just go into the 'sleep mode' and sleep thru the possibly stressful ride ... !
i'd get a regular heating pad for him to sleep on overnite in LA tho ... heating pads aren't ideal for long term use *if* they're the *only* source of heat ... but if it's set on 'low' and is a supplemental warm source, it's not a bad thing to do (iZ loves his!) ... tell Petrie it's kinda like camping out *grin* ... (iZ camped out in a closet the 1st night we moved into our house ... put the heating pad on the top shelf and he just snoozed away ... *grin*)
as long as you can get him set up pretty good once you get there, i think you and Petrie will be just fine!
have a safe trip and best wishes to you + your family! we'll miss you wile you're gone :(
hugs + hibiscus
