iguana won't eat

my roomates worried about his iguana, he has laid down a bowl of lettuce and carots and stuff but he doesnt think his iquana is eating anything, is there any certain times they eat? why wouldn't he be eating? what are some of the factors? hes still a baby, (about 4 or 5 inches long, maybe a foot including the tail). Also what are the proper water conditions for the iguana, a wator bowl, does thae tank get misted? would a pound that was being filtered do? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanx
