This isn't an uncommon thought regarding dehydration and kidney failure, although I haven't heard it involving artificial UVB directly. Another thought may be overusage of antibiotics. Animal protien has also been linked to kidney failure.
As far as moisture is concerned, what I do with Vega$, is she has her daily showers. We live near the coast, so our humidity issue isn't too bad. Vega$ loves cantaloupe and watermelon, so she'll get that during the day as treats. Her food dish has residue water at the bottom plus when I wash her greens, I leave the water there as well. I watch her urates to help guide me whether she's suffering at all from any dehydration. I also use her blood panels to help with diagnostics too.
Some other owners I know of, have used a misting system and humidifiers for their iguanas.
I really feel that for whatever reason, giving an iguana as much unfiltered sunlight as possible is the best. I try to give Vega$ an hour a day at minimum with weekends getting as much sun as she can get. During cool days but with sun, I'd set up up a heat lamp or heat pad by the sunning area; at least she'll be warm while soaking up the sun rays.

If you search the IML archives, you can find some discussion about kidney failure and dehydration/humidity issues.
