I would strongly recommend that you have a good reptile vet look at the ig and ask for an honest opinion of what the chances of this ig leading a QUALITY life would be. Sometimes our hearts get in the way of what might be best for our pets and/or any animals. By what you described, if it were my iguana or if I was faced with a decision to make, I would try and do the humane thing and end its suffering. Though, it is very sad and heartwretching,sometimes it is the right thing to do. My family was faced with this decision the week before Thanskgiving this past year. Our oldest cat was 19 years old, it broke my heart, but it was his time to go and I'm glad I/we had the option to humanely put him down. You have a hard decision to make and a very tough one at that.
