Did he give any suggestions on what to feed? Did he take samples to check for parasites?

You might check on diets for the desert iguana and the chuckwalla. Both of these are desert creatures. I have no idea what their temperature and food requirements are but you might want to closely use them until you find out differently. Do you have a food speciality shop near you? Maybe try the spineless cactus pads? They are listed for green igs too but I've never tried them.

I'm shutting up for now because I've had an idea! I have a friend who has a chuckwalla! Well, duh on me!! I'll get in touch with her and run this situation by her and see what she suggests. She has years of experience with reptiles of all different types. I'll be back in touch when I hear from her....or maybe I can persuade her to post here.
