One thing I learned from having Lola and the broken tail she had when she arrived at our home, is that when igs shed their tail section, always keep an eye out as it's shedding. If an area has dry skin on it but doesn't shed off, this could cause problems. Lola, as I said before, had a half tail...at the end of her tail is what I believe to be a shedding ring. It's where the skin doesn't come off and it starts to choke the area of her tail. We now know that Lola will never see any part of her lost tail section because of this. If you look close you can see where it has cut off the circulation at the end of her tail. There was nothing we could do to reverse this. I strongly suggest keeping a eye out during sheddings for this problem. If it should happen, I have read that putting Mineral Oil on the tail in the a.m. and also soaking your ig during the day, then apply more Mineral Oil to the problem area. The shedding problem is not rare with iguanas so keep an eye out for this during your igs tail shedding time. Any dead skin left on your igs tail can start buildup and cause problems when the next shedding comes. So keep your igs tails clean! :)
