A friend of ours caught this little guy outside of his warehouse and asked if we could take him in and help him out. Central Florida isn't exactly the most common place for baby iguanas to be running in the wild, so I have no idea where this little one came from or how he ended up outside all by himself. He's very small, his body is only about 3" long. He's very sweet, but understandably very nervous. Some bad damage was done to his tail, it looks like he may have gotten hit by a cat, as there's one really bad place where the tail almost got severed, them some smaller, less deep scratches scattered around the same area. I was able to clean him with antiseptic solution and get a little bit of cream on his tail. He doesn't want the tail touched, and it actually bled a bit when he sprinted away from us, it bends at the bad break. I just let him be all day yesterday to let him adjust to being in a tank. He will let me pet him, but if I try to pick him up he scurries away and leaves the tail at a bad angle, so I back off. So I'm trying to treat the wound 'from a distance', getting little daps of Neosporin on his without causing him to run away from me. I included a picture so you can see how cute he is (very bright green! we nicknamed him Beebles) and see how close to the base the damage is. I'm hesitant to try and wrap the tail, thinking it might do more damage than good... any ideas on treating the wound? He's otherwise in good condition, other than being very thin, his ribs stick out a bit. He drank some water Wednesday night, and a little bit of Gatorade/Hydrolife mix yesterday, I think he might've snuck a bit out of the bowl I put in the tank for him today. But I can't get him to eat any of the food I put in there... I gave him bits of collard greens, mustard greens, squash, apple, grapes and some yogurt, but he won't even go near the bowl. I gave him a few small crickets and I believe he ate them... he won't eat in front of me, but the crickets disappeared. I don't know if he wants the crickets because he's been in the wild and it's what he learned to catch, but of course I'd like to ween him off of the crickets and get him eating the veggies he needs, I just have no idea how to do this since he won't go near them, and I don't want to stop giving him the only food he will eat since he's malnourished right now. Anybody have any ideas on what kinds of food I might try to get him to eat that would be healthy for him? I'd love to see him make a full, quick recovery!
