Oh definitely get him off the particle substrate. Newspapers or linoleum is a better bet. They will ingest many substrates and this can cause impaction.
Broccoli and bananas are not really that great for them. I would only use as a rare treat.
Good luck with the xrays...hope there isn't any impaction. I've heard the same conflicting info. on tums. I've used them before but not consistantly. Once your ig is in good health, you really don't need calcium supplementation IF you feed a proper well balanced calium rich diet. (collard, turnip, watercress dandelion, escarole, etc.)
