Also..I guess I would be concerned about fire as you mentioned. If you must keep him in that cage, which I would really reconsider, you can get thin plexi that come in very large sheets...drill holes in it and attach those to the inside of the cage. Try to minimize the holes since those will be sharper areas where he can cut himself. The best bet is a whole new cage, however.
