Instead of cardboard, what about that heavy wood-like stuff that you nail to the back of build-your-own bookshelves? I bought some at the local lumber store in pre-cut panels of 2'x4' for I think $1.75cdn. Its much heavier than cardboard, and doesn't heat up the same way. I cut holes in it with a jig saw for the lights, and put the lights up on (this will sound wierd) cake racks, the wire kind with the knobbly thing on the bottom so its up half an inch. So far, the fake-wood stuff has stayed totally cool.
Also, what if you just used this stuff where he could reach the bars, say around the bottom and on the sides where his shelves are? Its easy to drill holes in and tie with cable ties, or duct tape to things.
:I posted below about Hercules. He is coming home tomorrow. I am nervous about him banging his stitches out and doing more damage. He is in a 6ft by 5ft wire cage. I have two UVA and one UVB all about 100watt. I also have a warm mist humidifier in the room with him. (He is in a room by himself and the room gets pretty warm and humid--like 80 in the room itself and 65 percent humidity). I put cardboard taped down with packing tape on the inside of the front of the cage. So that when I am open the door and he sees me he doesn't charge the cage bars and bust his stitches. I made sure that it is taped down securly. However, I am worried that the cardboard will heat up and catch on fire? Is that possible? I know that I will have to watch the tape because it might come lose with the humidity. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, do you think this is a potential dangerous situation?
