Well, i live in a tropical country so i dont have any problem to keep my igs warm.My problem is the opposite, i.e., how to stop them from overheating outdoors!lol! But i know that in the southern and colder states of Brazil, igs owners use hot caves to keep their igs warm, so the igs dont sit in a hot rock but enter the hot cave where the heat is equally distributed. So the igs dont touch the rock but are envolved by the heat. What do you think? Is this a safe alternative?

:I've had absolutely no problem at all keeping the ambient temp in my main enclosure using a radiant heat panel. The unit has been operating 24/7 for the last 2 1/2 years now with absolutely no failure whatsoever. The house thermostat stays at 70* as well. At the very least I'd recommend using a ceramic heat emitter for ambient temps. The only thing you could potentially end up with when using a hot rock is a severely burned iguana as they have absolutely no safety shutoffs built into them - unless of course someone has decided to redesign them. I wouldn't know as I haven't looked at one in over 10 years now.
:If you want to take the risk with your ig I guess you have the right to do so but please don't go around telling people that there OK to use. You evidently haven't seen first hand what thermal burns through the scale and down to the fascia look like on an iguana. I've had to deal with 3 so far - it's not pretty and the recovery rate is very low.
