I have six kids in the house that I care for, my own youngest just turned three. Hygeine and making sure you have a pattern works best. My three year old does not go by the animals unless it is ok and someone older is there to supervise. My ig goes potty close to the same time every day and in the same spot in his cage. He gets his bath and then is allowed to free roam, never unsupervised. I believe with igs it is all a matter of timing.
As long as you figure out a good routine you can have your ig and kids too. :)
