Well I have 4 igs and 7 kids. I already had 4 kids when I started with my igs in 1994. I have gone through 3 pregnancies with my lizards. Proper hygiene is always a must, and if you have free roamers, then a spot where they cannot go to put the babies to play is in order. Like anyone with kids, routine is how you survive. I have a routine with my igs and they thrive on it. They know at that certain time of the day they will either be roaming the house, eating, bathing, etc. I have no problems with this. I am also sole caretaker of my animals and had no help with them during pregnancy and post partum with a newborn. Again proper hygiene + no problems. Good luck. Lyn
:I have a question for any herp owners who also have had children during the lifetime of their lizards:
:What did you do to ensure your safety and the safety of your kids during/after pregnancy?
:I'm in my early twenties right now, and don't have plans for kids in the immediate future. But I definately haven't ruled it out. I could never imagine that it would be a right decision to decrease the quality of life of an animal you accepted into your family, simply because you decided to add another member, but then again, I guess it's possible a person might feel differently if they were in that position.
:People with herps and kids, especially babies, how do you balance the two?
