Well it sounds like he is in breeding season ('tis the time of year). And what you described sounds like it could have been a seminal plug which they can release when they poop or anytime they feel like it. It can be beige or orange...looking soft, moist and tubular shaped or old and dried like a dried apricot (depends how long it's been in there). They can extend the hemipenis to help get it out. Sometimes I have noticed traces of red (possibly blood) on the ends of them.
If this doesn't sound like a possibility to you, then perhaps it is something serious with his digestive tract, but I don't hear of these type of problems very often. Keep an eye on his poop and see if his next one looks normal.
