Welcome to the wonderful world of reptiles in a mammal shelter. Much like pet stores tehre's always an exception to the rule but from my experience the majority of shelters and societies don't know/don't want to know about anything that doesn't have some kind of fur on it....Three things that come to mind are getting in touch with the shelter director and discussing this issue directly, contacting an animal cruelty investigator in the area and explain what the situation is, OR contacting the media, TV first, and let them know what is going on....
