I am a little surprised that it dehydrates. Baby food has water in it. I should clarify that he does eat on his own but only a little bit due to breeding season. (He will only eat like two bites of things and leave the rest). I don't want him to get to skinny so I supplement with baby food. I do give him wheat bread soaked in water as a special treat every couple of weeks. He really loves that.
:It tends to dehydrate and definitely isn't as good as fresh veggies. Maybe you could transition him by smearing babyfood on some collards, mustards, turnip greens, escarole, dandelion, endive, watercress, squash, peapods, green beans...(probably smear on the sweet babyfood!) And try tempting him with some fruit like mango, melon, berries, papaya as treats. It may take awhile and some patience but in the end it is well worth getting him on a more natural/healthful diet. Good luck and let us know.
