Betadine ointment cannot be used in the mouth because betadine is toxic if the reptiles swallow it. However, it can be diluted to a tea-like color and used to rinse the mouth instead of the peroxide. I used it on Kaaz when he sliced up his gum with a loose tooth. You have to make sure the reptile does not swallow ANY of it - hold the animal with it's nose pointing down, swab with a q-tip or piece of gauze soaked in betadine, and immediately rinse the mouth with lots of water.
There IS an antibiotic ointment that can be used in the mouth (to pack on the gums in really bad cases). My vet perscribed it (plus baytril shots, plus 2x daily cleaning) for a rescued boa with the worst case of mouthrot I'd ever seen. The boa was missing all her teeth, her mouth was full of pus, and the swelling from the infection went all around her head and jaws. Amazingly, she pulled through. She's a fighter. Looking at her now, I can't see any traces of her horrible experience... I don't remember what the ointment was, but you could ask your vet about it, maybe?
