KTRK-TV/ABC-13 (Houston, Texas) 27 December 02 Young boy dies in house fire (Darren Lyn)
It took just minutes for a young boy to die in a fire, leaving his family with a tragic loss.
The trailer fire happened Friday morning at the Natural Horizons Family Nudist Park in Boling.
The Wharton County sheriff's department said the fire started around 9:30 Friday morning. Investigators say eight-year-old Lonnie Williams, III was inside the camper at the time. His father had already gone to work. His mother and six-year-old sister had left just ten minutes earlier to take a shower at the recreation center.
"When I saw them, she was already seeing the flames and I said, 'Is anyone inside?' and that's when she told me her son was still inside," said family friend Mark Rolland. "And there was no getting out. There was no going in and getting out."
The Ft. Bend County Fire Marshal's office believes the blaze may have been caused by an electrical malfunction in a heat lamp used in a tank for an iguana.
"The boy had just gotten a lizard for Christmas," said Rolland. "They had apparently that type of warm rock to lay on. That was new."
The fire marshal's office still needs to go through all of the evidence to determine the exact cause for this fire.
