Enclosure question, is a naturalized plant bottom possible?

Ideas are flying around the table, and one we all liked was the idea of having a natural plant bottom for Tempest in his new enclosure. Does anyone have any experience with this? Not potted plants, but actually growing plants in soil.

We are thinking of having a waterfall at one end, to provide humidity and drinking water with pretty much no way to lie down in it, with a "pool" at the other end that Tempest will be able to soak and poop in. The pool will be removable, so I can take it out and dump it daily, where the waterfall will hopefully stay clean. Knowing Tempest, he'll make a mess of it in short order ;)

What we'd like to do for the middle 3 or 4 feet, is put down six inches or so of topsoil and peatmoss, and plant some kind of grasses or greens that will grow well, keep well, that are safe. I was thinking of trying alfalfa from the feed store, but then there are several low lying greens out there, would any of them hold up ok? I figure then he can graze if he wants to.

Or, should I just keep the bottom linoleum so I can scrub it clean? I like the idea of a fully planted enclosure, but I have no idea how it would work, or what plants to use. Any ideas would be very much appreciated, by both me and Tempest! (who is healing nicely, and shedding like crazy, the bathtub is his best friend)
